Super Danganronpa Another 2 ~The Moon of Hope and Sun of Despair~ (슈퍼 단간론파 어나더 2 ~희망의 달과 절망의 태양~ Syupeo Danganronpa Eonadeo 2 ~Huimang ui Dalgwa Jeolmang ui Taeyang~), more simply known as Super Danganronpa Another 2 and SDRA2 , is a completely released fan game created by the Korean game developer LINUJ (린유즈). It is a sequel to his previous game Danganronpa Another ~ Another Despair Academy ~. The game has seven playable chapters and a prologue and epilogue.

The theme of this game is Process and Result.^[1]

The last chapter, Chapter 6 was released on January 10th, 2020^[2].

Killing Game Rules

The school trip at Utsuroshima has no time limit. Once a murder takes place a class trial will be held shortly thereafter. Participation is mandatory for all remaining students. If the correct blackened is chosen as the class trial, only the blackened killer will be punished. If the correct blackened is not chosen at the class trial then all the students except for the blackened will be punished. If the blackened wins the class trial, the blackened completes the school trip and can leave to the outside world. In the case of multiple blackened killers in quick succession, only the first killer is recognized. Nighttime is from 10pm to 7am, during this time the Monocruise will be locked and you will not be able to leave. During nighttime, scary monsters patrol Utsuroshima. Any harm that comes across from these beasts will be your responsibility. During nighttime, you are only allowed to sleep in your own room in the Monocruise. Sleeping in another room or outside of the room is against the rules. Violence is forbidden on Utsuroshima. This includes violence against Monocrow and the destruction of property. However, violence with the intent of murder is excluded. Monocrow is not involved in any killing. The student handbook+ is limited to one per person and can only be operated by fingerprint. If it is carelessly lost then you will be punished. After three students discover the body, the body discovery announcement will play. Whether this includes the culprit's sighting is on a case to case basis. You are freely allowed to investigate Utsuroshima, there are no specific restrictions. Rules can be added as needed Mikado Sannoji cannot use magic for a murder. Betraying Void is strictly forbidden.

Creation and Development

Pre-Development History

SDRA2 was announced on the 13th of June 2015, the same day as the final release of this game's predecessor; Danganronpa Another^[3]. LINUJ, in the announcement blog, stated that he wished to break as many ties to canon as he possibly could while retaining certain aspects of it, that the maker would be changed from RPG Maker 2000 to RPG Maker VX Ace as he wanted a higher quality look of the game, and as well shared a few pre-production screenshots of Yuki Maeda, Yoruko Kabuya, Shobai Hashimoto and Teruya Ōtori^[3]. Two days later LINUJ would post a silhouette stand of the yet-to-be-seen characters in a blog explaining when profiles of the characters would be posted ^[4], releasing a profile of Sora - the game's protagonist - not long afterward^[5]. Throughout the next year LINUJ, from time to time, would occasionally post character profiles for the other characters until he eventually posted a shortcut for easier access ^[6], and screenshots of the yet-to-be-released prologue ^[7] noting that things may change in the finalized product and that some of the personalities were slightly adapted during the writing process.

Release

On February 23rd, 2017, over a year after the initial announcement, the prologue was released ^[8], following with occasional updates about the game- including teasers of minigames that'd be in the class trial, as well as changes to Setsuka Chiebukuro's design^[9] - until eventually releasing a trial demo of the first chapter ^[10] and a finalized edition three months afterward which included free time events, gifts, the woman's fantasy event, and multiple other changes. ^[11]

After the release of Chapter 1, LINUJ began to progress on the Chapter 2, releasing screenshots ^[12] and a teaser of an original minigame titled 'Logic Craft' - a game where the player would control a spaceship to dodge obstacles and eventually pick the correct answer to a question relating to the trial. ^[13] Chapter 2 would then be released on December 29th, 2017 with an update patch released four days afterward. ^[14] Production on Chapter 3 would begin sometime afterward with screenshots released on February 14th, 2018. ^[15] Another update on the chapter would come only a month later explaining that LINUJ hoped to release the chapter during March, though he had uncertainties due to his schedule.^[16] Chapter 3 was released on May 4th. ^[17]

Soon later production on Chapter 4 began with teasers of the game released just over a month after Chapter 3 on June 13th, 2018. Noted in the same blog was hope that the chapter would be released at any point through August to October. ^[18] Another update was published four months later in October, with an apology for the release, stating that he had to rewrite the story after realizing it was "too similar" to an unspecified Danganronpa game.^[19] Chapter 4 was later released a month later on November 23, 2018. ^[20] Chapter 5, like the other chapters, had screenshots released on the 9th of January 2019. In the same post LINUJ stated that SDRA2 would be the final part of the Another series, also opening up that he found it difficult to create the game due to the writing of the characters, story and etc. However he would later go on to mention that he'd probably release drawings of the characters from time to time afterward also mentioning that he was hoping to release the Chapter by March. ^[21] He'd later release another statement stating that he'd be unable to meet the deadline he wanted to make due to school work, hoping to release it by April. ^[22] Chapter 5 was later released on April 12th, 2019. ^[23] Two weeks after the release of Chapter 5 a surprise release for a new chapter titled 'Chapter 0' was released, including a short story branch for an older Kokoro Mitsume and Mikado Sannōji. Also included was an update for the prologue's execution and introduction to Monocrow. ^[24]

Unlike the other Chapters, with the exclusion of Chapter 0, Chapter Six was met with no screenshots of the upcoming chapter. It was originally predicted by LINUJ that the game would be released during December^[25], but it was later stated to be unlikely due to needed bug tests. ^[26] In the same blog LINUJ notes that he wouldn't be able to post a Christmas or new years image this year due to time constraints ^[25], later going on to state Chapter 6 had a total of 216 new sprites^[25] and 62 CG's. ^[25] Chapter 6 would later be released on the 10th of January 2020 ^[27]. A small 'frequently asked questions' blog released the day after covering topics on bugs found within the game ^[28], with the mention that a patch to cover bugs appearing during the climax mystery segment^[28].

Under two weeks after the release of the final chapter, Chapter Six, a blog post was uploaded started by thanking the community for playing the game. Later on, in the blog it progresses into split parts; the completion of the Danganronpa Another series, a small post about the ending and it's ambiguity, Super Danganronpa Another 2s start and development. It lastly ends with an updated version of the e-mail guidelines for questions that can be sent to LINUJ's e-mail ^[29]. In a deleted post two days later, the SDRA2 popularity poll was started where google forms could be used to vote for a person,s favorite character. Three days later another blog was posted updating the e-mail guidelines once more ^[30]. On the seventh of February, the popularity polls were closed with a total of 4226 votes collected in total, with an illustration of the game's protagonist Sora and Monocrow uploaded with crowns representing their places (first, Sora, and twelfth, Monocrow) ^[31]. A week later, on Valentine's Day, a special illustration was uploaded to LINUJ's blog containing the top five voted characters; Sora, Kanade Otonokoji, Iroha Nijiue, Yoruko Kabuya, and Teruya Ōtori in a bakery-like scene^[32].

On February 20th, a week after the release of the Valentine's Day illustration, LINUJ began to upload the character profiles of the participants. Sora was the first person to receive a profile, with a text description of her posted contrary to the image-based version of the Danganronpa Another cast ^[33]. In this post was additional information for the game that wasn't mentioned beforehand in any other blog, regarding 'Rule 8'. The post details that Rule 8 - "During nighttime, scary monsters patrol Utsuroshima any harm that comes across from these beasts will be your responsibility" - was scrapped after the creation of Chapter One, but was left in as it was too late to remove it by the time this change was made. Originally this rule was intended to have an adventure mode similar to a JRPG, where the player and a few characters of choice would go out to investigate. LINUJ later considered adding this into the Omake mode of the game, but went against the decision as it would be too difficult to implement^[33].

Trivia

• LINUJ started drawing in Elementary School as a hobby, but then expanded on it later in life^[34].
  • He never learned anatomy, and instead uses his instincts while drawing^[34].
• LINUJ uses SAI to draw^[34].
• LINUJ is a fan of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. His favorite characters are Jotaro and Kira, and he likes parts are Part 3 and Part 7 the most^[34].
  • In Chapter 6, Mikado imitates a pose done by Giorno Giovanna.
